Located in el Parque de Ceiba, la Ceiba Centenaria is the main feature of the historic park. The park is believed to be the site of the first settlement of Europeans in the Ponce region. There is all marks of indigenous artifacts like pottery, shells and stones, that confirm the presence of Taino Indians even before the arrival of the Spaniards. La Ceiba Centenaria is a historic, centuries old tree that is one of the largest and tallest trees in the tropics of the Western Hemisphere. The Ceiba tree is also Puerto Rico’s official national tree.
